I heard this story today and cried really hard.
A little girl had terminal cancer, and had only one wish. She wanted to see the movie Up. She wrote to Make A Wish, and it was all set up for her to go to the premiere. As the time came close, she became more and more sick. When the day came, she was entirely too sick to go. She was heartbroken. A family friend wrote to Pixar, and told them the story. All was set in place for a representative to come. The man showed up one night, arms loaded with memorabillia and an unreleased dvd of the movie. They set it all up in the girls room, and the representative sat by her the entire time. That night, as her mother was saying good night, she asked the little girl if she enjoyed the film. The girl sweetly and gratefully said that yes, she had. That night, the child died in her sleep. If this were’nt heartwrenching enough, let me add this. The girl was so sick that night, she couldnt even open her eyes. She had ‘watched this movie by listening to her mom’s steady stream of what was happening in the movie. She was so grateful, for these little things. She asked for soemthing small, got something less, and was more thankful than most of us are for much more. I think we can learn something from this.
